PLAGIARISM DETECTION

The Journal RDC uses the Crossref Similarity Check, which is an anti-plagiarism software created by iThenticate and Crossref with thousands of journals sharing their work, offering to editors the comparison of scientific content similarity within its database.

INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY POLICY

The Journal RDC encourages the use of inclusive language in the writing of scientific articles, in order to encourage inclusion and diversity. The RDC believes that language and science are socialization agents that can reproduce or try to contribute to overcoming structural inequalities in society.

  1. Published content must not state or allude that one person is superior to another because of age, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or health condition. This is even an imposition of the Brazilian Constitution of 1988 in its republican and equality principles.
  2. Care must be taken to avoid the reproduction of stereotypes and partial views of reality, influenced by structural inequalities in society. Terms with negative connotations should be avoided.
  3. The adoption of gender-inclusive terminology is suggested, and the use of neutral terms (e.g. juízo, instead of o juiz; defesa técnica, instead of o advogado; pessoa acusada, instead of o acusado) or both grammatical genders (e.g. o/a advogado/a; a advogada e o advogado) is preferred.
  4. a) The use of both grammatical genders must be weighed against the objectivity and intelligibility of the text, since the excessive use of such an option may eventually impair its accuracy.
  5. b) It is also possible to suppress the grammatical gender when identification is unnecessary (e.g. especialistas, instead of “os” especialistas); or collective terms can be used (e.g. corpo docente, instead of os docentes; comunidade científica, instead of os cientistas).
  6. Avoid labeling subjects, except when strictly necessary (e.g. renowned teacher, respected professor, etc.). The labeling of subjects by age, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or health condition should be avoided, unless this qualification is indispensable for the understanding and development of the research.
  7. Standardize the reference style to authors. If you choose a name and a last name, adopt them equally in all cases.

The RDC recommends consultation of the  Inclusive Language Guidelines of the Brazilian Senate; FRANCO, Paki Venegas; CERVERA, Julia Pérez. Guidelines for the non-sexist use of language and LGBTI+ Communication Guidelines (all in Portuguese).

In English, please see: Elsevier Guidelines and the United Nations Gender-inclusive language.

In Spanish, please see: Lenguaje inclusivo en cuanto al género de la Naciones Unidas e Guía de la Universidad de Valencia.

In empirical research, the RDC recommends paying attention to the ‘Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines’.
