Abstract

This paper analyzes the concentration of the Brazilian mobile telephony market due to the high demand among consumers and the closing of the barrier between the voice service and mobile internet due to technological advances, between the years 2011 to 2019. For this purpose, the following concentration indexes are used: Herfindahl Hirschman (HH) and Concentration Ratio (CR), in addition to the Instability Index (I). It is concluded that the voice service is characterized as highly concentrated from 2011 to 2014, and also in the years 2017 and 2019, but, in the other years analyzed, this service presents a moderate concentration. 3G and 4G services appear highly concentrated in almost all the years discussed, except in the year 2017 for the 3G service and, in the years 2018 and 2019 for the 4G when both presented moderate concentration. Regarding instability, the market is characterized as stable and presents results close to the minimum instability.
