Challenges of antitrust intervention in network industries

Abstract

The article intends to analyze the implications of the antitrust intervention on network industries: high-tech  markets  with  the  presence  of  virtual  networks.  From  the  analysis  of  the  main  characteristics of these markets, like the possibility of price discrimination on the different sides of the Market, the fast expansion  of  the  network,  and  the  implications  of  the  need of  compatibility  between  the  network components,  some  implications  on  traditional  antitrust  analysis  are  indicated.  The  conclusion  points towards the need to review the traditional antitrust methodology used in the analysis of these sectors.
